PLAY & CREATIVE ARTS THERAPY

A child centred approach to therapy

Play Therapy is a child centred approach to therapy, where play is the primary medium of communication. Through play, children are able to express and communicate a range of emotions they might not be ready to articulate yet.  Once a therapeutic relationship has been established, Play Therapy can provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment for children to explore and process issues affecting their lives, past and present.

TESTIMONIAL

Nicki Gilbert, School Head, Westfield School

"Hatty has worked with a number of our pupils, either on an individual or small group basis, to enhance social and emotional resilience. She uses a variety of age appropriate strategies to support her work, and personalises her approach dependent upon with whom she is working.
Pupils look forward to her sessions, and achieve significant progress towards their identified objectives. She has supported individuals to overcome anxieties about specific experiences, such as hospital visits; and enabled others to develop effective social interaction skills leading to the ability to share, or listen to others’ ideas.
Hatty is a well-respected colleague, and has really become ‘one of us’. Hatty liaises with parents and professionals to inform them of her approach and her intended outcomes. She is courteous, conscientious, professional and extremely thorough in her approach to her work, and creates informative reports following each block of sessions.
She is dedicated and committed to making a difference to the lives of young people."
